Support & legal
An app for restricting your own phone, and for keeping an honest record of how you are doing against your own rules. This page is where you get help with it.
Need help now? Email conseqapp@gmail.com. A person reads it. Or jump to turning everything off.
What the app does
You set rules for your own phone. CONSEQ applies them through Apple's Screen Time systems, with access you grant, and keeps a record on the phone of how it is going.
- Filters out sites meant for adults, in every browser on the phone.
- Blocks apps and categories you pick.
- Applies a daily time limit you set to any of those apps.
- Stops any app being deleted, if you switch that on. This one covers the whole phone.
- Gives you four things to do when you want to ride out an urge: some arithmetic, a breathing exercise, going and pointing the camera at an object, and shaking the phone.
- Keeps a log on the phone of your check ins, the tasks you did, the times you told it you broke your own rules, and the times a block stopped you. Plus a day count.
There is no account or sign in. Some of the app is behind a weekly or yearly subscription, purchased through your Apple Account. The Terms of Service explain the plans and cancellation, and the Privacy Policy explains how information is handled.
What you need
- An iPhone running iOS 18 or later. The app is portrait only, and there is no iPad version.
- A passcode set on the iPhone. iOS will not grant Screen Time access without one.
- To be 18 or older.
Getting help
Email conseqapp@gmail.com. That is the whole support channel, and a person reads and answers it.
You can also reach it from inside the app: open the Settings tab and tap Get support, or Request a feature. Either one opens your Mail app with the message already addressed and filled in with your app version, build number and iOS version, which is what we need to work out what went wrong. If your phone has no mail account set up, the app shows you the address instead.
If you write to us from your own mail app, please say which iPhone and which iOS version you are on.
How to turn everything off
There are two ways, and both of them work whatever state the app is in.
From inside the app. Open the Settings tab, scroll to the bottom, and tap Erase everything and start over. Hold the button to confirm. That lifts every restriction CONSEQ applied and deletes your answers, your run and your log from the phone. The app goes back to how it was the first time you opened it. Do this before deleting the app.
From the iOS Settings app. Take Screen Time access away from CONSEQ in Settings, under Screen Time. That clears every restriction the app applied, including the one on deleting apps. Your log stays on the phone until you erase it in the app or delete the app.
Questions people actually ask
Why does it need Screen Time access?
Because that is the only way an app on iPhone can block anything. Apple's Screen Time systems, called Family Controls, Managed Settings and Device Activity, are what apply the web filter, the app blocks and the time limits. Without that access CONSEQ can keep a log and give you tasks, but it cannot restrict anything.
Why does my iPhone need a passcode?
That is Apple's rule, not ours. iOS will not hand Screen Time access to a phone with no passcode set. If the app tells you the grant failed, this is usually why. Set a passcode in the iOS Settings app, then try the Screen Time step again. CONSEQ never sees your passcode.
Why can I not delete other apps?
Because you switched on the setting that stops apps being deleted, and iOS applies that to the entire phone. While it is on, no app on the phone can be deleted, not only the ones you chose to block, and not only CONSEQ. Apple's system has no narrower version of it. Turn it off by erasing CONSEQ from inside the app, or by taking Screen Time access away in the iOS Settings app.
I cannot delete CONSEQ itself.
Same reason, same two fixes. Erase from inside the app first, then delete it normally.
Why do I have to wait before I can change my settings?
Because you chose a wait. The Protocol page can be set to make you sit for up to five minutes before anything on it is editable. It is meant to cost you the ten seconds in which you would have changed your mind. You can set it back to off, and the change applies from your next visit to the page.
Can you see what I browse, or which apps I blocked?
No. Apple hands an app like this one sealed identifiers that mean nothing outside your phone. We never learn which apps they are, and we are never told which sites you visited or tried to visit. We do not send these records to Superwall.
Does the camera record anything?
No. The object task looks for a fridge, your shoes, a couch or a microwave, and works out what it is looking at on the phone itself. No image is saved or sent anywhere. The breathing task uses no camera. You can say no to camera access and still use the other tasks.
How do I get my data deleted?
Erase everything from inside the app, as described above. That removes your local habit and activity records. It does not cancel your subscription or delete subscription and analytics records processed by Apple or Superwall. Email us to request deletion of records processed on our behalf; Apple manages its own purchase records. See the Privacy Policy for details, including the subscription markers that remain on the phone. We delete support email within 12 months, and sooner if you ask us to.
Is any of this medical?
No. CONSEQ is not a medical device, not therapy, and not a substitute for professional care. It does not diagnose anything and it makes no claim about your health. The questions it asks at the start are our own, and they only decide what the app says to you next.
Does it cost anything?
Some of the app requires a subscription. CONSEQ offers weekly and yearly plans; the yearly plan includes a three-day free trial for eligible Apple Accounts. Check the plan screen for current pricing in your country. See the Terms of Service for details. Cancel in your App Store settings; deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
